Spring Time in Oak Ridge, TN

Spring in Oak Ridge is an exciting time. Not only is the area beautiful but there are so many things to do.

First there are a few ongoing events that you find worth your time. The Department of Energy Public Bus Tour is a must for anyone who enjoys History. The bus departs from the American Museum of Science and Energy, ( 300 South Tulane Avenue), at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during April and May. During June, July, and August the tours are Monday – Friday. The tour takes you to the original Manhattan Project Sites around Oak Ridge. You will learn the history behind the worlds first Atomic weapon which helped to end WWII. The tour is for Age 10 and up.

There is also a newly opened exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge. The Children’s Museum is located at 461 West Outer Drive, Oak Ridge. “Masterworks : Prints from the Collection of Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge” features works by the worlds greatest artists, including Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet and Rembrandt.  The museum hours are Tuesdays 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Saturdays 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Sundays 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The museum is closed on Mondays during the school year. During June, July, and August the museum is open Mondays 9:00 am- 5:00 pm. It is a great experience for children and adults.

There are also some upcoming events that you may want to mark on your calendar.

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will host Primetime Fiesta on April 16th. This is one of the largest networking events of the year! We hope to see you there!

Secret City Scenic Excursion Train will offer a Spring Colors Train Ride on April 18th. The train ride will give you the opportunity to experience the journey enjoyed during the golden age of rail travel in the 1930’s and 40’s. Passengers will begin their journey back in time abroad Southern Railway coach Fort Oglethorpe, built in 1947. The train ride times are 11am, 1pm, and 3pm.

The SIRA Championship Regatta will be April 18th and 19th at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge.  The Regatta will begin on Saturday at 7am and end on Sunday at 6:00pm.
