Holiday Homecoming!

There is magic in the air here in Oak Ridge. The winter air, the holiday decorations, and the small town feel that makes everyone feel at home. Whether Oak Ridge is your hometown, a vacation spot, or a destination on your to-do list, it feels like coming home. This time of year is a great time to be in Oak Ridge. From the time you arrive you will feel the excitement and anticipation of the Holidays. There is a feeling that takes you back to your childhood Christmas’, a time when Christmas was about family and celebration.

If you come to Oak Ridge in November, don’t miss The Nutcracker 2014! This performance is put on by The Oak Ridge Civic Ballet Association. Shows are Saturday November 22nd at 7pm and Sunday November 23rd at 2pm. There is also a matinee performance on Saturday November 22nd at 2pm , but note some of the featured artist from the previous shows will be excluded at this performance. No matter which show you attend it is sure to be a wonderful performance of The Nutcracker!

If you are fortunate enough to be here in December, don’t miss the Santa Scenic excursion train, presented by the Southern Appalachia Railroad Museum. No matter your age, we all love Santa. The schedule for 2014 is Saturday December 6th and Saturday December 13th at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. The Sunday departures will be December 7th and  December 14th at 1pm and 3pm. What better way to get your holidays started than a scenic train ride with old St Nick himself?

December 6th thru the 24th visit the Museum of Appalachia for “Christmas in Old Appalachia.” The sights and sounds of the season will surround you on the grounds. The decor is pioneer, recalling times past when Christmas was a simple family holiday. The gift shop has many hand-crafted items. Lunches are served daily from 11am to 2pm in the museum restaurant. Don’t miss this walk through Christmas’ past!

And finally, this year the Oak Ridge Christmas Parade’s theme is “Holiday Homecoming”! You don’t want to miss this small town celebration. You will be surrounded by the magic feeling of a small town holiday with music, lights, and beautiful floats. The parade will be at 6pm on Saturday December 13th. It will begin at Corporate Center, on the corner of Lafayette and Laboratory Road. From there, the parade will travel down Lafayette to the Oak Ridge Turnpike and continue west on the Turnpike to Oak Ridge High School. We are very excited about this as WestGate will have a float in the parade. Come on out and celebrate a Holiday Homecoming with us.

Oak Ridge is a wonderful place to be during the holidays. If you really want that “at home” feeling, come to WestGate and rent one of our condos for your stay. If you plan on staying one night or maybe even thirty, WestGate can accommodate you.

As property managers, we would love to have you come out and celebrate the magic of Christmas and New Years with us. If you happen to be traveling to our area just give Cindy or Gary a call and we will get you all set for a enjoyable and stress free stay. We hope to see you soon!

What To Do, What To Do?

While this history of Oak Ridge is rich in history, chances are you won’t be visiting Oak Ridge to participate in nuclear activities, or you might be! If you plan to come to the area in mid-September, there are plenty of things you can do from enjoying a scrapbooking event brought to you by Oak Ridge Parks and Recreation Department. Be sure to bring a jacket as evenings and nights gets windy and cool. Upcoming events you won’t want to miss include the Junior Playhouse production of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a Street Painting Festival, and various train rides. Be sure to check the calendar for specific information!

Oak Ridge Offers Much and Growing!

Oak Ridge city leaders opened their minds and ears via Facebook asking citizens and patrons what retail establishments the city needs. Popular responses included children’s clothing stores, IKEA, Macy’s, Cabela’s, Trader Joe’s, Target, shoe stores, among others. It does not go without notice the city still has much to offer such as small businesses ranging from delicious restaurants to the tried and true Epicurean for your natural needs and cures. The Atomic City of Oak Ridge is full of rich history and heritage, and unlike many other cities, many of the founders are still around to tell the stories of the day the gates opened.
